When we interviewed Rachel Bichel B Comm, CPA she glibly described herself as a ‘colleague’s sidekick’.
But she is so much more than that!
Rachel is a qualified accountant in her own right, specialising not only in tax and looking after her own client tax portfolio, but is a tax reviewer within OBT so is a crucial step in the sense-checking and accuracy process of achieving the best tax outcomes for OBT’s clients.
Rachel is a Lockyer Valley original, born and bred. After completing study at USQ she went on to work in Toowoomba where she attained her CPA qualification. When she grew tired of working in Toowoomba’s big smoke, she headed back down the range to Gatton in 2006 for a change of lifestyle and to put down some roots on her parents’ property, which is when she joined OBT.
When the season is right, you’ll find Rachel picking pumpkins, grading onions or tending to the lucerne crop, so we reckon she knows a thing or two about family farming businesses. But when it’s tax season, you’ll find Rachel keeping things ticking over in OBT’s office in Gatton.
Rachel is OBT’s go to person on MYOB, QuickBooks and Phoenix (customised for ag-businesses), and co-coordinates all the team’s internal and external continuing education and training.
“Our Business Solutions division is so new, interesting and diverse compared to accounting and tax’s compliance focus, but both areas go hand in hand and are much-needed by business owners.”
She also knows too well, first-hand, the devastation that flooding had on the region, with the family’s crop wiped out and totally replanted thanks to the last course of natural disasters. But Rachel remains upbeat; outside of work she is an avid player and treasurer at the Lockyer Tennis Association www.tennis.com.au/lockyertennis thrashing most opponents on Saturday afternoons. And, of course, family and friends are at the heart of everything Rachel does, and preferably with a beach setting!
For now Rachel has a very busy agenda following OBT’s recent Business Solutions event What Makes a Good Business Great, plus Gatton Show planning with lots of OBT giveaways and a competition on 19-20 July so make sure you pop by the OBT stand to say hello.
If you would like to know more about how Rachel can help you tap into the potential of your business, or you’d like to attend OBT’s second Business Solutions event Protect and Grow your Farm Assets at Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre on 19 June 2013 please phone OBT in Gatton on 5462 2277 or click here to RSVP by email. There is no fee to attend but you’ll need to book your place in advance.
