Working with an accountant who is also a specialist business advisor to provide specific management advice makes a lot of sense, just ask Rodney Logan.
Head of Business Solutions and Lockyer Valley old boy, Rodney Logan, is comparatively new to OBT when you line him up against some of our team. But in the three years he has been with our firm, he is the first to admit he’s been on a steep learning curve which he’s taken by the horns and run!
After completing business studies at USQ in Toowoomba, Rodney did a 15-year stint with R T Edwards as company accountant at their Ipswich headquarters. When the company restructured, Rodney seized the opportunity to depart corporate life and seek new challenges with OBT.
Rodney is more than just your average accountant; he helps all manner of businesses with profit planning, business valuation, cash flow forecasting, business analysis, industry benchmarking, what-if scenario planning and evens acts as a ‘virtual Chief Financial Officer’ to businesses who benefit from the higher level of expertise but not the full time input.
Rodney has a raft of business solutions resources at his fingertips which he drives for OBT and applies as required to significantly streamline business solutions projects, including ProfitOptimiser, QuickBooks, MYOB, Cash Flow, BankLink and accredited viba business processes.
“Having had a corporate accounting background, I love to see OBT’s clients running their businesses effectively,” says Rodney. “I have a keen eye and know what to look out for, the areas to improve, ways to be better and the shortfalls to avoid.”
Often a Business Solutions project will need to bring in different streams of expertise, so Rodney closely collaborates with other OBT team members depending on client needs and project requirements, “We are about to launch our viba business advisory capability which ties in nicely with any succession planning that Rodney Turner and our financial planning division does.”
Outside OBT, Rodney is a busy dad with two girls under three years of age. He enjoys all sports, is an enthusiastic QLD Reds member who never misses a game, an avid Ford man, has a passion for flying planes and also enjoys travel having visited all points of Australia and most continents. Up until recently, Rodney was a commercial boar goat breeder so has first-hand knowledge of running an agricultural family business. He is actively involved with Whitehill Church of Christ, especially in missionary awareness and support.
For now Rodney has a very busy agenda with the launch of OBT’s Business Solutions event What Makes a Good Business Great at Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre on 30 May 2013, and then planning for Gatton Show with lots of OBT giveaways and competition on 19-20 July.
“With another anniversary coming up at OBT, looking back it has been a great learning experience with a fun team of people. Getting my head around tax legislation has been the most challenging – you can never learn too much – but it has also been extremely rewarding.”
