Michelle Burling B Bus, CPA
Michelle joined OBT Financial Group in 2018 in a new position as Bookkeeper & Data Manager.
Michelle has worked for a number of years in accounting as well as manufacturing and we are delighted to have her join our team in Gatton. She has already established herself as OBT’s go to person for all client queries about accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, Reckon, QuickBooks and other industry platforms.
“A phone call or email about how to use software can easily lead to set up or training,” says Michelle. “We now have the ability to run sessions in our office, in someone’s business or over the internet via a remote desktop.”
As a CPA with vast manufacturing and payroll experience, including being an Internal Quality Auditor, Michelle can lend commercial insight to the client support she gives, and is a safe pair of accounting hands whenever OBT’s team needs extra support.
“I like working with numbers and helping people and teaching others what I have learned. If I can keep business owners running smoothly on their accounting software, then it frees up our accountants to be able to concentrate on tax, regulation and other business issues.
Currently Michelle is immersed in helping OBT’s clients set up and run payroll effectively and run reports either on cloud or desktop versions, but Single Touch Payroll is only three months out.
“Single Touch Payroll means businesses of all sizes will be required to use more technology but many people are still not wired that way,” Michelle says. “We’re helping the region’s employers to find simple and cost effective solutions, starting with a broad overview of providers, narrowing down suitable options or working with businesses to move to the cloud using what they have already.”
Michelle will work closely with OBT’s accountants to make sure our clients are STP ready, so keep an eye out for updates as the 1 July deadline draws nearer.
Outside the office Michelle keeps busy breeding Poll Herefords on her 200-acre farm except in August when she heads to the big smoke to be a dairy steward at the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) in Brisbane. She’s also a dab hand at cooking and handicrafts when she has the time and is also an avid reader.
“OBT’s difference is our culture,” Michelle added. “The team is always friendly and very good at looking at ways to improve and is also a great place to work.”
