From the moment she finished high school, Annette stepped straight into accounting.
Annette has held a range of roles, from working in the QLD Treasury and Minister’s Office accounts departments, to being an Accounts Manager in private enterprise, but it was being in public practice and engaging with people that always held her interest.
Once she found her feet in accounting and accounts, Annette went to TAFE to get her diploma, encouraged by her husband.
“I had always been involved in accounting departments,” says Annette. “For many years I prepared and balanced reports which were handed over the ‘the accountants’ so I liked the idea of getting to see how the rest of the job was done.”
That then prompted Annette to take her qualifications further by obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from USQ.
“Public practice is where I wanted to be,” says Annette. “I did the degree so I could see life on the other side of the desk.”
With the move to OBT Financial Group in 2018, Annette is working closer to home. She has become a key member of OBT’s Accounting & Tax team advising and preparing financial accounts, tax returns and BAS for a broad range of small and medium businesses, companies and Trusts.
Many people were glad to find Annette after she relocated.
“I know my stuff so can confidently bring the numbers to life for our clients,” says Annette. “I had a number of people tell me they rang around and were grateful that they found me working in Gatton now.”
Annette is also proficient in a range of accounting systems including MYOB, Xero and Quickbooks. It means she is on hand to help business owners construct and maintain monthly cash flow forecasts and budgets, as well as processing payroll and reconciling accounts payable.
“I love being able to make sense of the accounting minutiae and rigorous regulation,” says Annette. “If I can understand it, then I can make sure our clients do too.”
On top of doing client work, Annette has also become an accounting mentor for Ebonie and Hayley who are both starting out on their own accounting career paths.
“OBT is good at developing talent and letting the team come through,” Annette added. “All the team are very friendly so it really has been a good decision on my part.”
Annette grew up in Rosewood, moved to Ipswich and now lives on 1,658 acres between Toogoolawah and Esk where she and her family raise black Brangus cattle. Being a keen horsewoman, she is keen to get into camp drafting and barrel racing. When she’s not crunching numbers, she loves nothing more than wiling away her evenings and weekends on the farm with her husband and kids.
Annette holds a Diploma of Accounting from Bremer TAFE and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Southern Queensland. She is also a Certified Practising Accountant with CPA Australia and a Justice of the Peace (Qualified). Connect with Annette on LinkedIn:
