Having financial advice close by makes a difference

For Plainland retirees Barry and Gail Lander, having Financial Planners who are nearby and invested in their affairs is important.

That’s why, in 2014 after seeing one of OBT’s ads in the local newspaper, they decided to pick up the phone.

Prior to that they had been clients of Financial Planners in Brisbane with whom they rarely spoke. Barry and Gail were thinking about winding up working life and they needed advice about how to start making the move into retirement.

“We gave our advisers an opportunity to tell us what to do in the future about pulling the pin and slowing down,” says Barry. “They gave us a couple of ideas of what to do but nothing we couldn’t work out for ourselves! They were evasive about what to do with our money.”

Barry and Gail’s first meeting with OBT Financial Planning turned out to be exactly what they were looking for.

“Yes, we received regulatory updates from the other advisers, but no one was speaking to us like OBT about changing things and looking at the best way to go forward.”

“OBT had spoken to us more in two weeks than the others did in 10 years,” says Barry. “With OBT somebody is looking and thinking about us and that’s the whole point. We changed advisers cold turkey and we’re no longer treated like numbers in a book.”

Barry and Gail are glad to have OBT doing their financial research.

“OBT said we needed a review and we’d been thinking about things and tested the water to suit our situation,” said Barry. “We’d never got that level of advice or drive to instigate strategies about what to do with our money from the others.”

“We’ve just submitted our forward estimates. Whenever we need extra money out that’s no problem – OBT Financial Planning have the finesse and understand that sometimes we get wayward and need a little extra. The team is wonderful and worth a million dollars!”

“From our perspective operating with OBT locally is important – they are just there, not too far away like in Brisbane, to have a meeting with,” added Barry. “That was another reason we went to OBT.”
