As one of the founding directors of the OBT Financial Group, Rodney has witnessed many changes to what clients need and expect from an accounting firm. With Rodney’s background in tax, superannuation and general financial services, he offers a very comprehensive financial planning package to his clients. His special interest areas include investments, estate and succession planning, wealth creation and risk management. Rodney works closely with OBT clients, assisting them to provide adequate retirement funding, the smooth transition of the family farm or business from one generation to the next and appropriate tax effective investments for them.
Rodney is an authorised representative of Lonsdale Financial Group and a member of the Financial Planning Association of Australia.
Brett has lived his entire life in the Lockyer Valley and joined the OBT team in November 1990. Since 1998 Brett has been a Director at OBT and is very proud to be leading such a progressive firm. Brett enjoys getting to know his clients on a personal level and assists his clients through offering meaningful taxation advice, therefore helping them to attain their business goals. He is also responsible for workflow management and business structuring for all OBT clients, and his special interests lie in wealth creation strategies and share market analysis.
When not at the office, Brett enjoys spending time at the beach and playing most sports including golf and tennis. He also has a special interest in working with the youth of the Lockyer District.
Sue helps look after the needs of some of OBT’s biggest clients. Whilst she specialises in commercial property and land development buy/sells, GST property sales and rentals, Sue also has a wide range of business experience and perspective that she brings to each case.
Outside of work, Sue is a serious travel bug having travelled extensively with her family.
Roslyn is a business and superannuation tax specialist either working with OBT clients firsthand or supporting Brett Garmeister. She is also a dab hand when it comes to using MYOB, Cashflow Manager and Class Super for managing self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs). Roslyn always looks forward to superannuation training to learn the latest developments. As a result, she has become OBT’s go to person for high-level superannuation queries.
Outside the office, Roslyn keeps busy with a young family. She delves into baking and going to the gym when she needs to switch off.
Rodney is more than just your average accountant; he helps all manner of businesses with profit planning, business valuation, cash flow forecasting, business analysis, industry benchmarking, what-if scenario planning and evens acts as a ‘Virtual Chief Financial Officer’ to businesses who benefit from the higher level of expertise but not the full time input.
Rodney has a raft of business solutions resources at his fingertips which he drives for OBT and applies as required to significantly streamline business solutions projects, including ProfitOptimiser, Reckon, MYOB, Cash Flow and BankLink.
Outside OBT Rodney enjoys all sports, is an enthusiastic QLD Reds member who never misses a game, an avid Ford man, has a passion for flying planes and enjoys travel having visited all points of Australia and most continents. Rodney was even a commercial boar goat breeder so has first-hand knowledge of running an agricultural family business.
Rachel specialises not only in tax and looking after her own client tax portfolio, but is a reviewer within OBT so is a crucial step in the sense-checking and accuracy process of achieving the best tax outcomes for OBT’s clients. Rachel is a Lockyer Valley original and OBT’s go to person on Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Phoenix (ag business) and co-coordinates all our internal and external continuing education and training.
Outside of work Rachel’s family and friends are at the heart of everything Rachel enjoys to do and preferably with a beach setting!
Wayne is an accomplished Senior Accountant, bookkeeper and Cashflow Manager specialist who works with OBT’s business and personal clients. He supports Brett Garmeister and the senior accounting team in all client work and is OBT’s Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) go-to person. Wayne has worked the length and breadth of southwest Queensland as an accountant so has seen business from inside and out. He has run his own business, having owned and operated a motel in Blackall and he was financial manager for a major livestock transport company.
But it’s not always business for sports lover Wayne who likes nothing better than to get away and see the world. To date he has travelled to the US, the UK, Caribbean and Europe and knows a thing or two about cruising with several ocean and river cruises under his belt.
Eighth generation Gatton local Amanda specialises in doing accounting and tax returns and preparing financial statements for all sorts of entities. Amanda is also skilled when it comes to processing BAS returns, trust audits, applications for ABNs and TFNs plus all corporate compliance matters.
Working closely with Brett Garmeister, Amanda services a broad range of client industries. She has an extensive knowledge of the real estate industry and trust accounts. Out of the office, Amanda loves spending time with family and friends.
Robin has gained considerable experience during her career and has developed a thorough understanding of working with small to large businesses in the farming, transport, building and retail industries. At OBT Robin’s role varies, from preparing financial statements and doing BAS and tax compliance work for individuals, partnerships, trusts and companies to working on self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs).
She and her family own a 310-acre farm where they breed and fatten beef cattle. Despite her busy schedule, she does get to enjoy some time gardening.
Pauline looks after a large range of businesses. She brings more than 20 years of bookkeeping, payroll, admin and accounting experience to OBT.
Pauline enjoys freshwater fishing and is also an avid patchwork quilter.
Dion specialises in individual and small business tax compliance, with almost ten years in the industry. He is our go-to software troubleshooter and conducts much of our software training with clients.
When not in the office Dion is run off his feet keeping up with his wife and three small children, while trying to squeeze in study for his MBAD (Project Management).
A move into public accounting was just the change Suzy welcomed and, assisting OBT’s Client Accounting Support was the just the start. After being in this role for a couple of years an opportunity arose for Suzy to add to her skills and she took on the challenge to become a bookkeeper/accountant. The move has been a decision she has excelled in. Additionally, Suzy has quickly become somewhat of a BAS and BankLink specialist when it comes to setting up client accounts and coding reports
Kathy is administrator of the Financial Planning section and brings a wealth of knowledge to the personal insurance area of the business. Kathy covers a wide-ranging number of services as one of the keystones of OBT’s Financial Planning team and is always happy to assist our clients.
Damon joined OBT Financial Group in 2013, working as a taxation accountant under Brett Garmeister and Sue Dobinson while finishing his Bachelor of Commerce. After accumulating almost four years’ experience in accounting, Damon decided to commence work as a Paraplanner in OBT’s Financial Planning division in January 2017.
He is currently undertaking further study to become a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and is finalising his Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) studies. Outside of work, Damon is an avid musician and enjoys frequent trips to the beach.
Jill joined the OBT team in October 2004 as an administration assistant and has performed a variety of roles during that time including working for 10 years on the Financial Planning team. Jill now works closely with Brett and Rodney in the everyday running of the business from payroll, accounts and office management.
Out of the office Jill enjoys a busy home life. She and her husband also own a 30-acre grain farm. When she’s not working, Jill enjoys listening to music and gardens to relax.
As Client Accounting Support, Debbie Walker works closely with the accountants helping to keep OBT’s clients organised. Outside of meeting critical year-end deadlines, Debbie works in OBT’s corporate compliance team, typically taking care of all company secretarial matters and dealing with ASIC.
Ebonie joined OBT as our bright and bubbly receptionist in July 2013 and hasn’t looked back. She now works alongside Debbie in the role of Client Accounting Support assisting our clients with queries and administrative support role to the accountants as well as lending a helping hand on reception. Ebonie also helps to manage OBT’s corporate compliance team, which involves liaising with ASIC and attending to all company secretarial matters.
Outside of work Ebonie is a crack netball player and, the first to admit, a shoe fanatic.
Lauren joined OBT as our Receptionist in 2016. Keeping our office in Gatton running smoothly is no mean feat, and Lauren is our friendly first point of contact. Nothing is too much trouble for Lauren from helping our clients and making appointments to going out of her way to assist staff with anything they ask of her.
