Whilst it’s less common these days to find one who is in the business of numbers across both disciplines, OBT has Graduate Accountant Damon Zischke.
Damon, who has just accepted a full time position with OBT, had an accounting career in his sights for some time. It is easy to see why he was selected for the role.
During his Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance studies, Damon received the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. He has also commenced his CPA Australia professional qualification, which he juggles with full time work.
But Damon was no stranger to OBT, having done a stint of work experience and then joining the team part time whilst he was studying.
Now as OBT’s newest accountant, Damon is in the thick of the tax season. His days are filled with completing tax returns for people from all walks of life. He is a cornerstone in OBT’s preparation of financial statements and tax returns which he does for all business types for Brett Garmeister’s and Sue Dobinsons’ careful review. He is also proficient in using MYOB, BankLink and Cashflow Manager.
Music provides the perfect antidote to Damon’s hectic accounting work life.
“It’s nothing for me to come home at the end of a busy day and play the piano for a good hour,” says Damon. “I find tinkling the ivories and sharing my musical skills with others a great stress relief and hobby.”
Because Damon is one of the new breed of accountants coming through the university system, he brings new methods and techniques with him.
“More and more people should be taking advantage of cloud accounting. Technology has made it so easy to keep a good set of accounts.”
For Damon, it was a straightforward choice to make it a permanent arrangement with OBT Financial Group.
“After considering my options, I found OBT to be the most progressive and up to date firm in the area,” says Damon. “Not only are Rodney and Brett very flexible when it comes to my study commitments. For me, turning up to a place where everyone is happy just makes OBT a great place to work.”
