We were thrilled to receive word from Alyssa Azar so soon in the New Year. As you know, we are supporting Alyssa’s efforts to become the youngest female and youngest Australian to scale Mt Everest – a goal she hopes to achieve in 2014. Alyssa writes:
“Dear OBT Team,
Happy 2013! I hope you are all well and having a great start to the new year tackling goals and confronting any challenges along the way.
It’s hard to believe January is already over and we are just 13 months away from being in Nepal. With 2012 over we are well into preparation and fast approaching the Everest attempt. This year I completed the Kokoda Track, a New Zealand Alpine Climbing Course and even had the opportunity to trek and stay throughout the mountains of Nepal whilst getting to see Everest and was even able to trek to the base of the icefall where I will be starting the official climb in 13 months.
I will be travelling around to different places in Australia attempting many different rock climbs and working with physical specialists in order to improve the technical side of the climb. In order to be ready for the mountaineering I will be attempting a summit of Mt Manaslu in Nepal (the 8th highest mountain in the world). I will be there for 2-3 months and then travelling to Argentina to summit one of the ‘seven summits’ Mt Aconcagua. Another New Zealand Course is planned, this time being another level up and specifically for expeditions.
I just wanted to thank you for your support and belief in the climb. Thank you for the opportunity to come and visit, talk and tell my personal story. I had a great time and I am very grateful for your involvement and I am glad to be sharing this experience with you.
