Meet Kathryn Brooks
It’s always heart-warming when we come across someone who has experienced life outside the region and then returned to call the Lockyer Valley home.
In this case, not only has OBT’s new Self-Managed Superannuation Fund Administrator, Kathryn Brooks, returned to the region, but she has also decided to continue with her chosen profession in superannuation administration.
We say that because, for many years, Kathryn worked in the legal profession in numerous administration and support roles. Then, after a decade of experience working with self-managed superannuation funds for a Toowoomba firm, she decided to relocate her talents to Gatton.
“Compared to legal, superannuation terminology was different and challenging to start with, but I have been in the industry for a while now so it’s all second nature to me,” says Kathryn.
“I like to help people and the more I learn, the more I can do that. It makes me feel good when we get a good outcome for a client.”
Now settled into her new role at OBT, Kathryn is getting on with the business of processing superannuation funds, attending to SMSF auditor’s requirements and lodging tax returns.
“Whilst I am a stickler for systems, I always try to find ways to be more efficient and streamlined,” says Kathryn. “Starting with a new employer, not knowing any of the funds from the outset allows me to create and tweak new processes.”
For now, relocating work closer to home has been a good move as far as Kathryn is concerned.
“Coming back to work in the Lockyer Valley feels great,” Kathryn added. “OBT are a family orientated firm and we have lots of laughs.”
Kathryn joined OBT Financial Group in 2018 and holds a Certificate IV in Financial Services (SMSF) so, naturally, she specialises in self managed superannuation fund administration. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, camping and dabbling (weather permitting) in her garden.
